2009 Philadelpiha Belles Coaching Staff

MIKE FLYNN /16F / -- Mike was the founder of the C.L. Stars girls basketball team in 1974 and the director of the Philadelphia Belles in 1978. He is recognized as the leading authority on high school girls basketball in the U.S. In 1981, he helped form the Blue Star Invitational summer camps for elite high school basketball players and is presently a consultant for Blue Star camps. He was the first consulting editor of the USA Today High School Top 25 and the high school All-America teams ('83-'87). Mike is the editor of the Blue Star Report, a national recruiting newsletter and serves on the selection board of the Nike All-America high school girls All-America Game.

ALISON EACHUS / 9U - 12U / -- Alison, was previously the Belles secretary -treasurer, is the girls basketball coach at Philadelphia William Penn High School. She was the coach of the Public League champions in 1975, 78 and 82. Alison is the longest resident coach of a Philadelphia Belles team. Alison started with the Belles in 1979 and after a five year break, came back to the Belles as a upper age group coach.

NANCY DOUGHERTY / 14 / -- Nancy is currently working as the Belles position and individual instructor for the younger age groups. Nancy's daughter, Amy, was a prior member of the Belles ('88-93). Nancy works giving private lessons on Post moves and skills. This is Nancy's third group. She also served as an assisant for Coach Terry Marcincin's team.

BRIAN CREECH / 13C / -- Brian came to the Belles program full time in the 1996 season. Brian was a previous coach for the North Carolina Emeralds from 1990 to 1994. In 1995 Brian was an assistant coach with the Belles 16-under team in Cleveland, OH. In 1995 Brian became a full-time assistant coach for Manhattan College. Brian rejoined the Belles in 1996 taking over the Belles 15-under team. He returned to North Carolina to coach boys basketball before returning for good in 1997. He works for USLI, which is run by former Belles Coach Tom Nerney.

JOSEPH WESTERFER (works for Ventanamed.) -- Joe rejoined the Belles again in 2002 after movig to the college ranks as a women's basketball coach in 1996. Joe now assisst Belles 16 coach Kevin Lynch. He bring a strong coaching background to the Belles program. He is a former player at Spring Garden College which he graduated from in 1992. Joe is currently the coach of the Belles 13s which captured the Middle Atlantic AAU championship this past year.

GREG HALLIGAN / 14G / Greg is the younger brother of Belles assistant coach Jim Halligan. Greg served as the co-coach of the Belles 13F last year after serving the two prior years as an assistant with another parent assistant, Henry Davis. His daughter Lindsay was a former Belles player (2002-2004). Greg will handle a lot of the organizational and coaching responsibilities with 13F coach Mike Flynn is not present. Greg is an employee at Halligan Oil.

Former Philadelphia Belles Coaches

KEVIN LYNCH / 16L / -- Kevin came to the Belles, first as a parent, with two daughters playing through the program (Shannon '93-'99 and Kim '95-'01) serving as assistant coach, age-group coordinator and team coach. Kevin took his 2004 team to the AAU 16-U National Championship in Coco Beach, FL to claim the fourth AAU title in Belles history. Kevin works for Pepsi in NE Philadelphia. He now does exclusive consulting work for the Blue Star Report, rating players.

TONY PLAKIS / 16P / -- Tony returns to his third year as a Belles coach focusing primarly on a South Jersey team for the Belles. Tony is a famous South Jersey boys basketball player who has returned to coach in the Belles program.

IAN WOLK / 14W / -- Ian is in his second year of working with a Belles team assistant the year before. Ian's daughter Lauren plays for his team which comprises of players based on grade rather than age for this year. Ian is the owner of a Auto Body and Repair show.

MATT BATTINIERI / 11B / -- Matt is a familiar face to the Belles program as his two sisters, Brittany (01-02) and Jamie, ('95-'00) both played in the program. His father Guy served as a Belles Assistant Coach in '99 and '00 and head coach in 2001-2002.. Matt is taking his first age group team.

JIM MUNN / 16M / -- Jim came to the Belles, first as a parent of Liz who played '96-'01 and then as coach, talking over his present Belles team when they were 14s. He heads Munn Roofing and also serves as assistant coach at Cardinal Dougherty until last year when he was named head coach at Bishop Kennedy-Kenrick HS.

DENNIS BOYLE / 15B / -- Denny served as an assistant coach for the Belles during the career of his daughter Andrea but moved into the head coach role when it came time for his second daughter Karen to join the program. Denny is working on his first team.

DON PAETTIE / 16D / -- Don is headed into this second year as head coach of his team. He moved up from assistant coach to head coach after two years in the secondary role. Don is also familar to the program with his first daughter Melissa finishing in 2003 and his second daughter Jessica playing for his first age group team. Don is currently retired from the Septa-Red Arrow service.

DAN McDADE / 14D / -- Dan comes to the Belles from the Fencor program after the graduation of his eldest daughter, Shannon, from a very successful high school career. In 1998 Dan started with a 10-U teams and now works with the Belles 14D team. He presently works for Blue Star Transportation.

GUY BATTINIERI / 14G / -- Guy is taking his first age group team after being an assistant for the his daughter Jamie's team (1995-2000). He started with the team in 2001 and is presently working for the Chester School District.

TERRY MARCINCIN / 17T - 12T / -- Terry joined the Belles in 1998 when his daughter Mallory joined the program. Terry has remained with this same group from the start and will pick up his second team starting in 2004. Terry is a dentist in Allentown, PA.

MARTY MALLOY / 16M / --Marty joined the Belles in 1999 when his daughter Justine joined the program. Marty formed his own team and became a part of the Belles program. Marty is presently a very successful lawyer in center city Philadelphia.

JIM HALLIGAN / 15M / -- Jim returns to the Belles after a two-year layoff after the graduation of his daughter Michelle from the program in 2000. He continues his role as assistant coach for the Belles bringing his parental expertise to the team. Jim currently owns and operates Halligan Oil.

TOM DARRAH / 12 / (now assisant coach of our boys Philadelphia Elite team) -- Tom joined the Belles in 1995 as an assistant coach with former Belles 13-under coach Joe Westerfer. Tom was instrumental in the Belles capturing the 1993 MAA Championships. Tom rejoins the Belles after returning from a one-year absence for work in Florida. Tom presently works for Telecheck in King of Prussia.

JACKIE DONOVAN (now working for her father) -- Jackie is a former star at Penn State University's nationally ranked teams. Jackie rejoins the team as a coach after playing from 1988-91. Jackie was one of three member of Sterling HS State championship team to play for the Belles. Jackie is the current director of the Blue Star Skills Camp.

MICHELLE REPKO (now at St. Pius HS) -- Michelle is currently a high school coach at St. Pius X High School in Pottstown. She was a former Philadelphia Belle players from 1980-83 as a player at St. Piux. Michelle and her sister, Sue (Belle from 1978-80) graduated from St. Pius. Michelle is the coach of the Belles 14-under team. Her 13-under team finished 2nd at AAU Nationals this past year

KERRI STRIKE /13a / -- Kerri is the director of the Philadelphia Belles development teams and works for Comcast, Inc. Kerri worked with the Belles 10-under, 11-under and 12-under programs for the club. Kerri's sister, Donna, was a prior member of the Belles ('93-'96).

TOM KADEN / 11a-b / -- Tom has been involved with the Philadelphia Belles since 1990 when his oldest daughter Jill played for the Belles. Tom has another daughter, Chelsea, playing on the Belles 14-under team. Tom is the owner of JLC Builders .

LAUREN FRIEL /17 / -- Lauren is currently a teacher with the Lower Merion School District and the girls basketball coach at Radnor high school. Lauren works with the Belles mid-age group teams. Lauren and her sister Lynn played for the Belles from '87 to '89. Their sister Sarah is a prior member of the Belles program ('89-96).

DAN McGETTIGAN / 16a / -- Dan is a parent of player on the Belles 15-under A team. Dan is presently the coach of Highland High School i South Jersey.

SHERI RETIF /15a / -- Sheri Retif is currently the girls basketball coach at Sun Valley, HS in Aston, PA. Sheri moved to the Philadelphia area in 1993 after leading a very successful program, the Louisiana Euchers, in AAU and USJN competition. Sheri was a staff member of the first Nike All-America Girls Basketball Camp.

DEBBIE FILIPEK / 13b / -- Debbie joins the Philadelphia Belles after coaching in the South Jersey area for the past two years. Debbie was a former college standout at Rowan College in Glassboro. Debbie is presently an elementary school teacher in Bellmawr, NJ and is the new girl's basketball coach at West Deptford High School. She will assist with the Belles 16-under teams.

BOB SAVAGE / 16S / -- Bob is currently the girls basketball coach at Gloucester High School.

BILL DESSART-MAGER / 14B / -- Bill comes to the Belles program after leaving the DVBA Comets after winning the 1998 12-U AAU National Championship in 1997. Bill brought the first of his three daughters, Amy, to the Belles in 1998 to play for the Belles. Kate came next playing for Coach Nerney's group. Bill started coaching a group in 2000 with third daughter Beth, who is a member of his first group. Amy and Kate were both named Delco Player of the Year for their respective class.

TOM NERNEY / 14N / -- Tom joined the Belles in 1996 after a very successful season with the Paoli Wildcats, a local girls basketball team. Tom is on the Board of Directors at Cabrini College and is presently the CEO and President of the USLI Companies in King of Prussia. He is working on his second team-group. His first group graduated in 2002 with all senior players receiving college scholarships.
